gTab – Trials and Tribulations

This entry is part 28 of 31 in the series GTab

Updated Review

I have previously written about my gTab, a gift from my wife for Father’s Day. Overall I have been satisfied with the gTab but find myself using it much differently than planned. My one hope, to write my weekly newspaper column, has not materialized as I have not adjusted to the tablet style …

Updated Netflix on GTab

This entry is part 27 of 31 in the series GTab

Just a quick note – I just upgraded my (hacked) version of Netflix.

My new version is v1.4.0 build 259. Did it break when I upgraded?

No. Good news! It works fine on my GTab with GTabComb v3.3.

I suspect that you can just get Netflix for the GTab from the Android Market now.  If not, …

GTab Sleep of Death

This entry is part 26 of 31 in the series GTab

NO Sleep of Death!

Many users of the ViewSonic G-Tablet experience what is commonly called the “Sleep of Death” (SOD). I do not have such a problem.

First, most of what we assume is the SOD is probably the result of holding the power button just a bit longer than necessary to turn the GTab …

This entry is part 1 of 2 in the series Audio-Video

Monthly Cable / Satellite Bill too high?

The term “cut the cord” is used to describe those who have turned off their land line telephone services – usually in favor of cell-phone-only service. I have done that but I used the Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) alternative – Ooma to replace my home wire line …

iPhone 3G & Wifi – NO SECURITY!

This entry is part 1 of 3 in the series Security

“If you own an iPhone 3G and use it with Wi-Fi, stop now. You’re not safe, nor will you ever be.” (Quote from ZDNet) Can it EVER be proper for Apple (or any other manufacturer) to know about a security hole in their operating system, have the solution, and still NOT provide it to the …

Format the GTab?

This entry is part 24 of 31 in the series GTab

WHY would anyone want to format their Android device? Wouldn’t that “BRICK” my G-Tablet? Actually, it is necessary if you are changing the boot loader (bl) from one branch to the other (bl1.1 to bl1.2 or visa versa). It is also a good way to assure a good flash of a new ROM – the first …

This entry is part 2 of 3 in the series Security

Network security is ALMOST as important as physical security in today’s environment. So, what can a person do to keep snoopers from stealing their identity while they are using a public Internet hotspot?

One of our users asked whether there was a greater risk from using a tablet rather than a laptop. Actually, you could …
