I am on Vonage right now for 34.00 per month. I had them lower to 11.99. I have tried oOma and the call quailty, echo, etc. sucked. I got my MJ+ at walmart for 70.00, it sounds great. No echo, lag. I did not know it was 29.95 per month but even that beats the current vonage plan.

Hi Don! So glad that everything is working well for you. And, you are correct - if you are satisfied with the GTab, then just enjoy!
You are correct about where the spaces are located.
I looked into the "colored spaces" idea and see if I could do that. Unfortunantly, does not offer that function. Thanks for the heads up -- I did edit the text slightly to clarify things a little.

Happy new year Bishop........ just checking in to see how you are all doing.
I have been trouble free with my GtabComb b3.3 bl 1.2 since July last year thanks to your efforts. I don't see any reason to explore further as my gtablet does all I need it to do.
I was looking through your "tips for android users" and saw the screen sensitivity post. Although I dont need to do this yet, never say never....... I was a little confused to which are "spaces" in the string, ie is there one:-
after the ; and the e in echo
between o in echo and the -
after 1 before >
etc etc,
I copied this into word to find out the spaces, maybe I may be so bold as to suggest adding a color to the space to make it clearer for others? I tried to copy this for you but colors dont display in this box.......
The instructions are
Code: (note the SPACES between characters)
$ su
# ( sleep 5; echo -n 1 > /sys/devices/platform/tegra_touch/calibration )

using an x for spaces it reads
$xsu
#x(xsleepx5;xechox-nx1x>x/sys/devices/platform/tegra_touch/calibrationx)

Kindest Regards
Don

<strong>Thanks Asiya! And, thanks for the donation. </strong>
<p>BTW, it is not so much "guys" (plural) as it is "guy" (singular). I do most of the work related to this site. Sometimes, users are able to provide help (as is the case with this article) and users often provide comments that offer feed back or other assistance.</p>
<strong>I consider your remarks as a compliment - that this site looks like, provides help like, and generally seems to be, a commercial or multi-person site! Thanks.</strong>

Use our "NVFlash for dummies" guide to fix almost anything you might have done wrong. It will give you options as you go through the steps - just choose what you want to end up with.
I recommend that you flash back to a stock 1.2 bootloader image and work from there. If you follow the guide, it will clear off all the old ROM and set up for any of the custom 1.2bl ROMs. I like HoneyComb MUCH better than Froyo or Gingerbread but it has some shortcomings. Read the article linked from the "NVFlash" article.

Ray, I am trying to update my G-Tab which has had the following on it since last June 2011. The ROM was Calkulin+Clemsyn 1.5ghz Froyo Combo Version 6 which had the 1.2 boot loader.
I have been trying to update this ROM to a newer one, but have not been successful.
I was able to update it to the stock ROM but the boot up still shows the honeycomb
screen of the former ROM.
I have Verified that the Tap UI Version is Calkulin's G-Tab V1.1, shown on "About Tablet" screen, but I am sure that I used the 1.2 ROM of that version in June.
I have intermittently been able to connect my G-Tab under APX mode but then loose it later on. Switching computers allows me to do it again but only once.
I am thinking I may have the wrong boot loader as a problem, but I don't want to try installing just that portion. I know very little about the operation of android.

Can you help with suggestions?

Thanks,
Frank

ray,i recently moved, and connected ooma as my phone service.for the first 3 weeks,i experienced dropped calls of varying lengths.for the past 2 weeks, along with the dropped calls, the ooma will stay working fine, then start blinking red(with busy signal if i pick up the phone).i'll unplug the ooma from the electrical source,it will be fine for a half hour, and then the blinking red.if i leave it alone,it will blink red all day....with no phone service, obviously.i'm about ready to get regular phone service....at any cost.to make matters worse, the area around my house is a dead zone for cell service.oh yea...my internet provider is charter.i'm not sure if what i am experiencing is jitter,or not.where do i turn next?

I am sorry but I cannot help.
My GTab appears to be down for the count. It is stuck in APX mode w/o ANY way to get it to real ops. I have been doing some extensive study and testing but nothing so far. I had to put it aside since I have not done much of anything else for the past week. Be sure that I will report it if I find the solution.

Hi Ray, yes, I am holding Vol+ and Power, and I get nothing. Nor will it power up at all. Stuck in APX mode, it seems. I have repeated the NVFlash dozens of times now on both Windows and Ubuntu because after powering down, NVFlash is the only way to get get it powered up now. I think this may be the same symptom that Mark Cagle and Sheng report over on your NVFlash for Dummies page. Volume keys works fine after it boots to the Tap UI, so it's not a hardware problem. Whaddya think? Something borked up in the partition resizing during the NV flash? I"m trying to read now to figure out how to get it back to an absolute stock condition -- do you think that's the next step? Not too convenient to have a tablet that can either never be powered down, or else it has to be connected to a PC to turn it on again!

Thanks,
Stuart

I am not certain what you might have done to get there but it should not be a problem. Just try the 2nd "TIP" (above), "If the utility reports “Offline” but has Boot Status of “4002″ (rather than 4000), then use Option 1 to reset the Boot Mode to 4000."
Even though your device says "Online", it still may be struck in the wrong Boot Mode.
If that fails, start over and follow the steps exactly.
<strong>Check back and let us know what did or did not work. We will work through it!</strong>

It is the "GO" Launcher. Everything is included in the downloads in the article above. I think that you COULD install the Go launcher without rooting but you would still miss out on the Android Market and the clean sync with the Google apps.
<strong>There is very little trouble or danger involved in rooting the device and there is no loss of Amazon's services if you follow my guide above. So, why not?</strong>

I heard you!
The iPaid will not do a LOT of the cool stuff that you can do on Android.
I am glad everything is working well for you (and others).

Perhaps because things are working smoothly?
I had not checked in for a while because I am very happy with the functionality of my tablet ever since I changed the OS (HC) following the directions in this site.

I use it for work and I sit side by side with folks using I-Pads but have nothing to envy from them...

You are absolutely correct about too many apps. I would follow these steps:
1. Uninstall anything that you don't actually use. Even PAID apps. They will still be on your account and you can download/install them later when/if you need them.
2. Move as many apps as possible to the SDCard. Remember that WIDGETS for apps on the SDCard will NOT work. Start with the apps that are over 2meg (Google Earth is like 21 megs!).
3. Check (and adjust) the polling of apps. Weather widgets, email, calendar, etc., all poll at pretty frequent intervals. Adjust to the longest interval that makes sense for your use.
4. Get a task manager app that will allow you to manually KILL unused (but still active) apps in memory. You need to have about 100meg of RAM available for the GTab to be responsive.
<strong>Again, it is a pretty simple thing to flash a new ROM and then get back if you don't like it. Check the process in the article above.</strong>

More responsive, huh? Man, that sounds good - my dear 12-yr-old daughter played with my tab the other night and said "It's not any good... it's too S-L-O-W!"

But I think my main problem is that I need to pare down my apps - I've got way too much free stuff installed, like three different email clients that all try to load and poll, and stupid apps that try to update every day or so.

So I'll try some common-sense cleanup and then decide whether to give Combover a shot.

Thanks,
Chris
